Drywall, otherwise known as Sheetrock, is used to make or cover large wall surfaces. The materials are usually pre-manufactured in standard sizes, 4’x8′ being the most common, when they are brought in by the contractor. Some require specialized screws and bolts for fixing, and there are eco-friendly versions available in the market Drywall is the most commonly found ceiling and wall material. Gypsum plaster is compressed to make sheets, which are covered on either end with thick sheets of paper and treated versions are available too. There are various alternative types of sheets; some sheets have more than one quality such as moisture resistance or fire resistance. Edges can be squared or tapered. Sheetrock Contractor Minnesota

Contractor MinnesotaSelecting sheet size
Drywall usually comes in the form of sheets. While the most common size is 4’x8′, other larger lengths can be found through a contractor too. It is best to use sheets with minimal seams in order to create a cohesive finish. Contractor Minnesota
Selecting the thickness
The thickness of drywall can vary, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch being most common. Sometimes there are large gaps between studs and joists and so thicker sheets are needed to keep nails and screws from falling apart.
Which side is which?
Generally drywall is a pale gray or ivory color on one side, and a dark gray or brown on the other side, with lighter surface facing into the room. Depending on the contractor, the other (back) side may have the contractor logo for identification purposes, visible down to the edge.
Squared edge and tapered edge sheets
Depending on the need square edge or tapered edge drywall is used to cover. Squared edge sheets are best for plastering purposes, whereas a contractor may use tapered edges for drywalling.
Scribing drywall
Scribbing is a technique performed to cut and fit a sheet against an undulating surface, like an uneven wall. It is used most commonly for altering a ceiling or drywall.
