Are Drywall and Sheetrock the same thing? The terms are very often used interchangeably and when the question is asked to civil engineers and builders in Blaine MN, most would say no. Essentially both Sheetrock and Drywall are made of flattened gypsum plates that are pressed between two heavy-weight papers. Although constructors such as Home Drywall and Construction know the difference between the two, Drywall being referred to as Sheetrock is common as the Sheetrock trademark is well established.

Sheetrock Contractor Blaine | What separates Sheetrock from Drywall?

Sheetrock Contractor BlaineBoth Drywall and Sheetrock are construction materials, and are more or less the same, with only minute differences in regards to label that manufactures them and makes the difference between the two. Sheetrock is a registered trademark, just like Sharpie in markers and Scotch in tapes. Sheetrock is similarly registered as a trademark with the United States Patent. While Sheetrock then refers to materials used in drywall construction, drywall is the construction method. However, Sheetrock has become synonymous with drywall construction; only the American Gypsum Company’s boards are actually Sheetrock. All Sheetrock can be called Drywall but understandably all Drywall is not Sheetrock. Sheetrock Contractor Blaine

It was in the late 1800s that Drywall board panels were introduced with gypsum sandwiched between two heavy papers. Drywall became so popular that US Gypsum Company started manufacturing them and became a common name. Drywall is alternatively called Wallboards, Gypsum boards, and plasterboards. It comes in various different shapes and sizes, consisting of varying materials and from different brands and places of manufacture. Gibraltar board, GIB wall, ceiling linings, Winstone Wallboads, rigs, reigns, knauf, Pladur, and placoplatre are all varying names or manufactures of drywall.

Drywall boards in Blaine and larger United States are often made in in 48 inches, 54 inches, and 96 inches wide panels in different lengths to suit the purpose of use, although 48 inches is by far the most popular width to use. Lengths up to 12 feet are easily available from contractors, although the most used length is 8 feet as it is the height of most home walls. Common drywall board thicknesses in Minnesota are half inch (or 13 mm) and 58-inch (16 mm), with panels also available in quarter inch, 38-inch (9.5 mm), 3/4-inch (19.0 mm) and 1-inch (25.4 mm) for specific applications.
