Normal Drywall butt-joints are very difficult to conceal at their edges where the sheetrock sections meet over a pre-placed wooden stud. Once sealant tape and compound have been applied, the seam stands of out the wall, looking incoherent and rather unsightly. How is this fixed? Often times a process called back blocking is performed through Drywall Contractors Fridley services which is called back blocking. This blog essentially discusses a solid approximation of what that process could entail. Drywall Contractors Fridley

Drywall Contractors Fridley | Drywall Back Blocking

Drywall contractors FridleyDrywall back blocking is usually pre-manufactured and consists of a wooden stud with a metallic bracket that is attached perpendicular to the stud. The piece can also have a simple metallic or wooden strip. While discouraged cuz of the potential for leakage and weaker insulation, they can also be made by cutting strips of plywood to the length of the drywall seam.

The first drywall section is then held against the wall or ceiling so that its edge is halfway over the wall cavity and not overlapping the middle of the wooden stud or wall joist. Nails and screws are then drilled through the drywall studs. These vary from walls and ceilings.

Then, a back blocker is sliced into the cavity behind the edge of the drywall section currently being installed, so that the whole drywall edge runs along the middle of the back blocking stud. The end of the back blocker’s metal bracket support will face outwards and the remaining part of it is against the inside of the drywall section. Drywall screws are then drilled in by Drywall Contractors Fridley through the edge of the section and right into the back blocker stud using a screw drill or manual driver. Screws are placed every six inch for proper finish and insulation.

The next drywall section is subsequently placed in position such that its edge touches the edge of the first drywall section, overlapping the back blockers stud from the first panel. Nails are then drilled through the drywall into the studs on the regular wall. Screws are installed through the edge of the second drywall panel and right into the back blocker’s stud using a screw gun or a manual screw driver.
